Caroma flagship showroom opens in Sydney

Located in the heart of Sydney’s design and lifestyle precinct, Caroma on Collins has been hailed as the “new design HQ for bathrooms” (nine.com.au).

The largest space like it in Australia, Caroma on Collins gives a nod to the company’s 75 years of history and innovation, demonstrating the company’s commitment to water conservation.

With a capacity of 39,000L of water, the large water tanks collect rainwater from the roof and provide water for the showroom’s working bathroom capsules and to quench the thirst of the plants.

Filled with plenty of natural light, the space has a climate control system managed by over 1,000 plants and trees. At the heart of the Flagship is ‘The Greenhouse’; a space which encourages people to come together to share ideas. The Greenhouse will also host consumer consultations, customer conversations and industry events.

Collaboration played a key part in the design of the space. Ten working bathroom capsules designed by local Australian designers provide inspiration and design ideas for renovators. Each capsule creates a place within a space to promote an idea rather than just a piece.

Caroma is also excited to welcome their new flagship team a highly experienced group of bathroom design experts who will guide and assist consumers during the stressful renovation process.

Pop in and meet the team at 39 Collins Street in Alexandria, New South Wales.

Plasson’s Universal Slip Repair Coupler given thumbs up

Plasson’s new Universal Slip Repair Coupler has been impressing tradies across the country and none more so than Rob Baker from Brisbane-based Encano Plumbing – a plumbing and gas fitting company that undertakes renos, new builds and commercial maintenance. Rob was quick to see the potential uses of Plasson’s new Universal Slip Repair Coupler.

“When I was first shown it I instantly saw the benefit of having a compression fitting to join onto old gal pipes; I do it all the time with renos,” says Rob. “The Plasson coupler eliminates the risk of accidently unscrewing threaded joints further down the line.”

Rob has also used the Plasson Universal Slip Repair Coupler on commercial jobs.

“I had a late night callout on a commercial building where the carpark was starting to flood during a storm,” recalls Rob. “The sump pump line was broken and it was pumping water back into the basement carpark. I was able to use the coupler to fix the leak, which was pretty lucky as I didn’t have any pressure pipe fitting on me. Needless to say, the owner of the building was very happy to have the damages bill minimised. For me, having Plasson’s Universal Slip Repair Couplers on my boys’ utes is a must have,” says Rob.

Rob isn’t the only one who’s been impressed by the Universal Slip Repair Coupler. Bryce Heinrich, Manager, Tradelink Coconut Grove in Darwin s also been blown away by it.

“The Plasson Universal Slip Repair Coupler is solving problems for plumbers when they have to repair a broken pipe. Earlier this week one of our plumbers was called out to repair a pool pipe that was damaged and quickly emptying the pool. The Plasson Universal Slip Repair Coupler allowed him to make a quick and permanent repair, saving the pool owner from losing too much water,” said Bryce.

You can fix any leak with the Plasson Universal Slip Repair Coupler. It offers a simple solution for joining and repairing a wide range of plastic and metal pipes using a single fitting. It has zero insertion force, making slip repairs easy and secure. Repairs can be made in the ground with ease with no need to move the pipe during tightening. Instant $20K tax break – don’t miss it

The big news for small business that came out of the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) earlier this year is about to pay dividends. In case you missed it, eligible small businesses with an annual turnover of less than $10 million are in for mighty nice tax break with the Federal Government’s jobs and small business package.

Assets costing less than $20,000 – like tools and equipment for your business – each get an instant write-off on your 2017-18 return. And you can use the instant $20,000 asset write-off multiple times.

So if you need to get yourself a new computer for the office, or a new laptop, that’s an instant asset write-off. If it’s time to stock up on some new tools for the truck, each item you buy that’s under $20,000 gets an instant asset write-off. If you buy a vehicle for less than $20,000, that’s an instant asset write-off too.

Yes, you can write-off every item under $20,000, you don’t just have to choose one. However, the $20,000 is inclusive of GST.

But get onto it because from 1 July 2018 the instant asset write-off threshold will reduce to $1000.You know what they say about making hay while the sun shines.

If you’re in need of new tools for the job, why not make the most of the $20k tax break and take advantage of Tradelink’s Tax Time Tools deals that are on until 30 June! The catalogue is packed full of great deals on a wide range of tools, accessories and safety gear from leading brands including Viega, DeWalt, RIDGID, Kincrome, Stanley Fatmax, Bromic, Bernzomatic and Equip Safety.

As always, book in some time with your accountant or tax agent first to check your eligibility for the tax break.

ATO audits – what you need to know

If the thought of an Australian Taxation Office (ATO) audit makes you go weak at the knees, knowing a little bit about what’s coming your way might help to ease your nerves.

ATO audits take many different forms. Sometimes a quick review of your business affairs is all that is needed. Other times, ATO officers are interested in putting things under the proverbial microscope.

If it’s the latter, you will need to provide access to your business premises, records and documents. Expect to be interviewed by ATO officers. And be aware that the audit may last anywhere from six to 12 months, depending upon the state of your records – so it can be quite disruptive to your business.

Your personal living expenses may be scrutinised too. If the ATO sees you’ve been splashing the cash on your home loan, or you’ve been spending up big on holidays, cars or boats, they’ll ask you to prove where you got the money.

Going it alone can be tough; you might like to get your accountant involved. Of course, this can result in a large bill, especially if the audit process does take 12 months to complete. Audit insurance is available and can help to cover the costs.

But when all is said and done, if you tick all of the ATO’s boxes it will be back to business as usual. Earn yourself some crosses on your scorecard though and expect to be penalised.
